Raider Band
The Tamaqua Raider Band will hold summer rehearsals from 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday and again on July 22. These rehearsals are for all instrumentalists.
Old and New Night will be held on July 29. New members will rehearse from 4-6 p.m. All instrumentalists and majorettes will rehearse from 6- 8 p.m.
Band Camp will begin at 8 a.m. on Aug. 4. Camp is mandatory for all band members.
All rehearsals will be held in the band room.
Majorettes will then continue to rehearse from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Middle school news
Christopher Czapla, principal of the Tamaqua Area Middle School has announced an orientation session for students new to the school will begin at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 18.
Parents of sixth-graders, as well as seventh- and eighth-graders new to the district, are welcome to attend.
Information will be presented on student schedules, activities, facilities and discipline.
Individuals will meet in the school district auditorium, then have the opportunity to tour the building accompanied by student guides. Information will be provided on student schedules and activities, facilities and discipline. For those unable to attend, orientation notes will be available on the middle school's website.
Homeroom assignments will be posted on the school's front/main door as of Aug. 4.
Senior drivers
The Tamaqua Salvation Army will host AARP Safe Driving classes, full certification and refresher, in August. The classes are open to anyone age 50 or older.
The full certification, eight-hour class will be held in two sessions, from noon to 4 p.m. on Aug. 18 and Aug. 19. The refresher class, which is four hours, will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on Aug. 21.
James Greaser will be the instructor for all sessions. The refresher course is available to those who have completed the full certification class within the past 36 months.
While membership in AARP is not required, there is a discount for members. There are no tests involved.
Participants over 55 who successfully pass the course will be provided with a certificate, which will qualify them for a discount with their auto insurer The certificate is good for a three-year period.
Class sizes are limited, so reservations are required. The classes will be held at 105 W. Broad St.

St. John UCC
The Rev. Kevin Duffy Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ.
St. Peter's Union
Sunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. This Sunday's service will include a Joyous Noise Offering. Summer Sunday school classes are held at 10:15 a.m.
Activities for next week include: Monday, softball game at 6:45 p.m.; Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m.
