Lions meet today
The Western Pocono Lions Club will meet today at 7 o'clock at the Old Mill Pizza Restaurant in Sciota. The speaker is Lisa Day from Family Promise of Monroe County.
Gardeners for Glory
Effort UMC's Gardeners for Glory meeting and work session will be held at 7 o'clock this evening. Volunteers are asked to bring tools, gloves and lots of energy.

The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m. Thursday.
Scholarship recipients
The Western Pocono Women's Club will present its 2014 scholarships at the 7 p.m. meeting Monday at Effort United Methodist Church on Merwinsburg Road in Effort.
Kristina Adams of Kunkletown will receive the $500 GFWC Western Pocono Women's Club Memorial Scholarship. She is the daughter of Elaine Adams.
Ashley Coleman of Kunkletown will receive the $500 GFWC Western Pocono Women's Club Jacqueline Sue Coleman Scholarship. She is the daughter of Robert and Stacey Coleman. These Pleasant Valley High School students have demonstrated outstanding character and academic achievement.
In addition to the presentation of the scholarships, the club will have a speaker from Pocono Medical Center focusing on heart health.

Smart Driver course
Formerly 55-Alive, the new Smart Driver eight-hour classroom refresher/defensive driving course by AARP is designed for qualified drivers 50 and older. It will be offered at the Chestnuthill Park Building at 1 p.m. July 19 and July 26.

Blood drive
The American Red Cross will conduct a blood drive at Wawa in Brodheadsville from 1 to 6 p.m., Monday.

Republican Club
The regular monthly meeting of the West End Republican Club will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Luna Rossa Restaurant in Kresgeville. Those wanting to participate in the optional dinner, should be at the restaurant at 6 p.m.
Lioness meet
The Western Pocono Lioness Club will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the American Legion Post Home in Gilbert, beginning with a social hour with some "Old Tyme" recipes. Amy Leiser from the Monroe County Historical Society will be the speaker. The business meeting will be at 7 p.m.

Sun program
The Chestnuthill Seniors, meeting at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville, will hear a presentation on Sun Sense at 11 a.m. next Wednesday.
Food pantry open
Effort UMC's Supplemental Food Resource Center will next be open from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday. It serves the communities of Effort, Gilbert, Kunkletown, Kresgeville, Brodheadsville, Saylorsburg, Sciota and Albrightsville to help feed families going through emergency or other short term situations, that are not eligible for local, county or state programs and is limited to a 12-week duration per family.
A valid driver's license or state ID with address proving residency in the West End is required.
Community meal
Our Lady Queen of Peace's next community Sunday supper will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. July 27.
Free concert
The West End Park & Open Space Commission will host the 19th Annual Art in the Park Show & Sale, along with a free concert featuring Riverside Rhythm Swing Band and Adam Jacob, starting at noon on July 27, at the Chestnuthill Township Park, 221 Route 715, Brodheadsville.

People who have the handicap placard can drive up to the baseball field and park at the very back and enjoy the music in the comfort of the car or bring a folding chair.
Tetanus shot
Tetanus, Diptheria & Pertussis vaccinations will be given from 9 to 11 a.m., July 30, at the Chestnuthill Senior Center in the Zion Lutheran Church Route 209 in Brodheadsville, for uninsured or underinsured persons. (Medicare does not cover tetanus unless one has an open wound.)
A $5 donation by check or money order is asked, but the injection will be available for free if one cannot afford it.
