Community giveaway
The Tamaqua Community Volunteers monthly giveaway will be held Saturday at the M and M Self Storage center, next to Schickram's Car Wash on Rose Street.
Anyone wishing to donate items should have them at the facility between 8 and 9 a.m. Saturday. Donations of clothing, toys, tools, electronics, holiday decorations, pots/ pans/dishes, cookware, furniture, appliances and practically anything else are welcome.
The only items not accepted are floor model televisions, computer monitors and obvious garbage. All donated items must be clean and odor-free.
The giveaway will start at 9:15 a.m.
The program is free and open to anyone living within the 18252 Zip code, regardless of income.
The group holds the event the last Saturday of every warm month.

Raider Band
The Tamaqua Raider Band will hold Old and New Night on Tuesday. New members will rehearse from 4-6 p.m. All instrumentalists and majorettes will rehearse from 6- 8 p.m.
Band Camp will begin at 8 a.m. on Aug. 4. Camp is mandatory for all band members.
All rehearsals will be held in the band room.
Majorettes will then continue to rehearse from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
St. John UCC
The Rev. Kevin Duffy Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ. The service will celebrate "Christmas in July" and will be followed by an ice cream and Christmas cookie fellowship.
The decorating committee will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday,
Zion Lewistown
The Rev. Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school will meet at 9:15 a.m.
St. John Lutheran
The annual outdoor service and picnic for St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church will be held this Sunday at the Bungalow Park Pavilion.
The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 11 a.m. worship service. If it rains, the service and picnic will be held in the church fellowship hall.
Calvary Methodist
All events connected with Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church, Lewistown Valley, are being held at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle, 614 Valley Road, through Labor Day weekend.
This Sunday, Ed Van Arsdale, youth pastor at Grace UMC in Telford, will share the unique lessons he's learned and provide special music during the 10:25 a.m. worship service
Also on Sunday, Van Arsdale will re-enact the life of John Wesley, founder of the Methodist Church during the 6:30 p.m. time of praise, worship and Bible study.
The "Dixie Melody Boys" will perform a concert at 7 p.m. on July 25 at the tabernacle. The public is welcome.
The annual Sunday school picnic, an all day event, will be held Aug. 3, immediately following the worship service. Participants are reminded to bring a covered dish or dessert for sharing. The day will end with a campfire service at 6 p.m.
