Summit Hill

Flag program

The Summit Hill Lions Club is continuing its American flag program in memory and honor of veterans from Summit Hill.

Throughout the good weather months, the flag will fly in Ludlow Park in memory or honor of the veterans.

Family members of veterans, or veterans themselves, can request to be scheduled by contacting Joseph O'Gurek at 570-645-5171.

During the week of July 28, the flag will be flown in memory of John, Michael and Joseph Lawrence, three brothers who were Army veterans of World War II.

John attained the rank of technical sergeant while working as a clerk with service in Brisbane, Australia. Michael became a corporal while serving in combat in Germany. And Joseph was a private first class who also served in combat in Germany, where he had the misfortune of being shot, losing a leg.

VBS scheduled

St. Paul Lutheran Church, Summit Hill, will be hosting its annual Vacation Bible School from Sunday through Monday.

Sessions will be held from 6 to 8 each evening with the theme of the VBS being "Animals of God's Kingdom."

The VBS is a nondenominational program with activities to include song and story time, arts and crafts, and outdoor games and activities (weather permitting), followed by a light snack.

All area children from pre-kindergarten through sixth grade are invited to participate. Older children are also welcome as well and can lend a helping hand.

To register children or to volunteer, contact Dana Henninger at hen.dana23@gmail.com or by phone at the church 570-645-3469.

The VBS program is being partially funded through the generosity of Thrivent.
