Obvious choice to renovate, not build
Dear Editor:
I can't believe there is even a discussion about this, the obvious choice is to renovate the existing schools.
The reason people live in Lehighton is because they like the small town atmosphere and the safety from the bigger schools like Allentown.
So having separate schools and not jamming them together into one is what draws people to this area, otherwise they would choose to live in the bigger school districts.
Thank goodness for Rocky Ahner and the handful of people on the school board that are thinking about the taxpayers.
Obviously, they are regular working people like the majority of the taxpayers in Lehighton, and we should have more members like that on the board. They do not want to see a high tax increase, and understand that taxpayers will not be able to afford them also.
The senior citizens now cannot afford the taxes and are forced out of their homes, and a lot more will be affected with this decision.
Wayne Wentz on the school board says, "Lets do what's right for the kids," that is all well and good as long as we can afford it. He is not even thinking of the taxpayers, but then why should he. Since his income is obviously higher than the normal person, he doesn't care what the taxes increase to.
Same thing with the football field he pushed for that we do not need.
The majority of the people in this town cannot afford a high increase, taxes are high now and how are people suppose to afford it?
Here is hoping sanity prevails in the end.
