Nature in Photographs, the first photography show at the Lehigh Gap Nature Center, Slatington, held an opening reception March 23.

There was a good turnout of people who enjoyed the variety of photographs. Both the subjects and the photographers came from a wide area as well as locally.

From the approximately 150 entries, 50 were chosen to be entered in the show in three categories wildlife, scenic and macro.

Phil Campbell, who was one of the judges, will be teaching a beginner to intermediate nature photography class on May 17 and 24. His class will be equally applicable for digital or film cameras. Each person will receive a DVD of the class material.

The other two judges were Anita Collins and Bob Hoopes.

Charlotte Bentz of Lynnport said she has a certified wildlife habitat.

She was watching the flicker she photographed and waiting for babies when a grackle "kicked her out and used the nest for her own babies."

The show is open daily 9 a.m.-3 p.m. through April 5, and 5-7 p.m. April 1-3. There is no charge.

The People's Choice award will be a canvas wrap print from Dan's Camera City of Allentown. It is valued at $300.
