Gardening helpline
The Penn State Master gardener program has established a horticulture helpline to answer gardening-related questions from Schuylkill County residents.
The helpline will be available now through Sept. 26. Master gardener volunteers will be available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday, with information about trees, flowers, shrubs, lawns, garden soil, vegetables, insects, plant diseases and more.
Anyone with a question related to lawns, landscapes and gardens will now have their answers just a phone call away. The helpline number is 570-622-4225, extension 20. Help is also available by email at schuylkillmg@psu.edu.
Community theater
The Tamaqua Area Community Theatre will present its production of "Arsenic and Old Lace" at 7 p.m. Friday and at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday at the Tamaqua Community Art Center, 125 Pine St.
The show includes some adult content and language.

St. John Lutheran
The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. The service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school and Confirmation classes will meet at 10:30 a.m.
Next week's activities include: rummage sale on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday; shepherd choir rehearsal at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday; Thursday rehearsals, angel choir at 6 p.m. chancel choir at 7:30 p.m.
St. Peter's Union
Sunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. Sunday school classes are held at 10:15 a.m.
Also this Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at 11:30 a.m.; Daisies, Scouts and Brownies will meet at 6 p.m.
Activities for next week include: Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m.; Wednesday, Kitchen Krew meets at 5 p.m.; Thursday, worship and music committee meets at 6 p.m., junior choir practices at 7 p.m. and senior choir meets at 7:30 p.m.
St. John UCC
The Rev. Kevin Duffy Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ.
The service will be followed by a time of fellowship. Sunday school classes will meet at 11 a.m.
Activities for next week will include: Monday, Consistory meeting at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.
