Effort blood drive
An American Red Cross blood drive will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. May 29 at Effort UMC. Call 800-RED-CROSS to schedule an appointment.
PTO elections
The Pleasant Valley Intermediate School PTO will meet at 4:30 p.m. today. The election will take place in the library.
It's election time also for the Pleasant Valley Elementary School PTO. That will take place at the PTO meeting set for 7 p.m., May 20.
W.E.L.L. meeting
The West End Little League May meeting is set for 8 p.m., Thursday at the Chestnuthill Park Building. Managers and coaches are encouraged to attend. Team parents and members of the league are welcome.
Deadline extended
The Fleetwood Scholarship application time has been extended to Friday for Pleasant Valley High School seniors. For more information call 570-992-9733 or go to www.weposc.org.
Free Safety Fair
GFWC Western Pocono Women's Club is co-sponsoring its third annual free Child Safety Fair with the West End Park and Open Space Commission from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday at the Chestnuthill Township Park on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.
State police can fingerprint your child and check car seats.
West End Ambulance and West End Fire Company will be present with their vehicles.
A Fire Safety House or simulated Smoke House from Tobyhanna Army Depot will be available to demonstrate safe ways to escape a house fire.
Pocono Medical Center will also have information available.
Exercising and being healthy through puppetry and storytelling will be new this year. Safe/Healthy Snacks for Kids will be shared by Lindsay Vaughn, dietitian from the Brodheadsville ShopRite.
Boy Scout Troop 113 will be selling food items.
Free information regarding car seats, school bus safety, etc. will be available inside the Chestnuthill Park Building during the fair.

Bicycle Safety Day
The Western Pocono Community Library will hold a Bicycle Safety Day at noon Saturday. It is open to all ages and will include a ride around the library property as well as a special mystery guest. Bikes and helmets should be brought along.

PVEN director recognition
Eloise Laubach, who recently retired, will be recognized for her many years of ministry as the director of Services of Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network, by the PVEN. The event will take place 5 p.m. Saturday at Light House Building of Christ Hamilton Lutheran Church, 419 Bossardsville Road, Stroudsburg.
It is a covered dish event and everyone is invited. It is asked that those who are able, bring a covered dish, dessert, appetizer, or drink (no alcohol) to share.
Chestnuthill meetings
The township supervisors will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday.
The township planning commission meets at 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 21.
Community lunch
Our Lady Queen of Peace will serve its Community Lunch at 12:30 p.m., May 21.
There will be no senior luncheons in May, June, July or August. They will resume in September.
PV PAC meets
The Pleasant Valley High School Principal's Advisory Committee will meet at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 21. Later that day, the PVHS Academic Awards program will be held.
Free concert
The West End Park & Open Space Commission's free concerts return to the Chestnuthill Township Park in Brodheadsville
The first of the series will be: A Tribute to Veterans from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, May 25, with Chris Eckert and Leigh Cole performing patriotic songs.
Participants are advised to bring lawn chairs, blankets and bug spray. Concessions available and all veterans will receive complimentary refreshments.

PVEN food needs
The PVEN Community Service Center is in need of cereal, peanut butter, jelly, canned tuna and soups. Donations are accepted from 9 to 11:30 a.m., Tuesday and Friday mornings. For more information, call 570-992-3136.
