Attains BSN from PSU
Kristen Halenar of Summit Hillwas conferred the degree of bachelor ofscience in nursing at the spring commencement held in Eisenhower Auditorium on the Pennsylvania State University Campus, University Park on May 10. This was the inaugural commencement for the college, as the nursing program had previously been housed in the college of Health and Human Development.
A highly competitive major at Penn State, the BSN program admits only one of 10 applicants.
Halenar graduated with a 3.72 GPA having consistently attained the rank of dean's list throughout her four years.
While at Penn State, she was an active member in THON, the University's student run philanthropic organization, which raises thousands of dollars annually to support children and families facing pediatric cancer. In her senior year, Halenar was the family relations chair for SNAP (Student Nurse's Association of Pennsylvania). She was also elected to dance as a representative for SNAP at THON.
Halenar has been selected by Lehigh Valley Health Network's nurse residency program and has accepted a position on the pediatrics floor of the children's hospital, Cedar Crest site.
Halenar is the daughter of Beth and Bob Halenar of Summit Hill and the granddaughter of Betty Marcinko of Lansford. She is a 2007 graduate of Marian Catholic High School.
