PVI Field Day
Beginning today, weather permitting, Pleasant Valley Intermediate School is having field days, by grade. Fourth grade is set for today, followed by fifth Thursday and sixth Friday.
Rain dates are next week, in the same order.
PV High concert
The Pleasant Valley High School Spring Choral concert will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
School Board meets
Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m. Thursday in the administrative building.
Spring Cleanup
The Pride in Chestnuthill group is hosting another spring cleanup day beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday. Those interested should meet at the park.
Food Resource Center
The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort United Methodist Church will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. The church is located at the Effort UMC Merwinsburg Road in Effort. Restrictions do apply.

Library movie time
The Western Pocono Community Library holds a Saturday Matinee at 1 p.m. in the Community Room of the Western Pocono Community Library.
The announced feature for this week is Adventures of the Penguin King.
Children under 10 years must be accompanied by an adult.
Free concert
The West End Park & Open Space Commission's free concerts return to the Chestnuthill Township Park, Route 715, Brodheadsville.
The first will be A Tribute to Veterans.
It will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday with Chris Eckert and Leigh Cole performing favorite patriotic songs by Neil Diamond, Lee Greenwood, Lady Gaga, Toby Keith and many more.
Attendees are reminded to bring lawn chairs, blankets and bug spray.
Yarn needed
The Prayer Shawl Ministry at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church needs yarn. This ministry meets one Saturday each month and creates prayer shawls that are given to the families of those who have lost a loved one. Please bring donations to the office. Anyone can join. Honored students
Jim Ecker, BCM International missionary for Monroe County, has recognized several long-term Released Time Bible Classes students. Three youth, Ashton Richardson, Nathan Sekol and Brienne Cunningham from the Pleasant Valley area school district, have been recognized for attending for four consecutive years.
Knit & Crochet
Zion Lutheran's Knit & Crochet will be meeting and working again at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Lioness celebration
The 35th anniversary celebration of the founding of the Western Pocono Lioness Club will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the American Legion Post #927 on Route 209 and Fair Grounds Road in Gilbert.
There will be a short ceremony, a time to socialize and light refreshments. Interested community members and past Lionesses are welcome to attend. RSVP to Lioness Secretary Gail at 570-992-2926 or 570-992-2165. A brief meeting will follow.
WE Republicans
The West End Republican Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Luna Rossa in Gilbert.
The optional dinner is at 6 p.m.
Relay for Life
The West End Relay For Life event will be held from 10 a.m. May 31 to 10 a.m. June 1 at the Pleasant Valley High School stadium, Brodheadsville.
The schedule for those 24 hours holds many items including the opening ceremony at 10 a.m., a vendor craft fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and food purchases any time during the 24 hours.
Entertainment includes the Urban Gospel Choir at 11 a.m., Cartesian Dance Academy, the McElliott School of Irish Dance at noon, face painting by Larry at 2:30 p.m., the West End Academy of Dance at 4:10 p.m., Jenni Hackett at 5 p.m., the celebration of life at 7:15 p.m., and the luminary at 9 p.m.

Cantata at PVP
Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church is hosting a cantata, songs and music, along with a potluck luncheon on June 1 immediately following worship.
This performance will feature the church's own praise team, Pastor Bob, and a number of other churches that have been very well-received at the other participating churches. Anyone planning on coming is asked to bring food, drink or dessert to share.
