A letter to Argalland Knowles
Dear Editor,
Mr. Argall and Mr. Knowles want to do away with the property tax. They want to replace it with a sales tax at a higher rate.
I am asking them to post in the local newspaper everything that is going to be taxed. I mean everything. Ninety to 95 percent of what you purchase under bill number 76 is going to be taxed.
You have people in Pennsylvania paying $10,000 to $15,000 in property and more in the main line of Philadelphia. On the other hand, you have senior citizens in the coal region paying $8,000 to $9,000 in property tax. Now everyone is subject to same sales tax. The difference is one family has $10,000 to 15,000, and the poor senior citizen has $8,000 to $9,000 to cover the same tax. Another thing: all the sales tax collected goes to the state. You know what will happen, money for Philadelphia and Pittsburgh for public transportation, etc.
I do not want any political double talk.
This letter is going to Mr. Argall and Mr. Knowles registered.
