Letter to Argall and Knowles corrected

Editor's note: We are reprinting this letter because some information was typed incorrectly in the Saturday, May 24, edition.

Dear Editor,

Mr. Argall and Mr. Knowles want to do away with the property tax. They want to replace it with a sales tax at a higher rate.

I am asking them to post in the local newspaper everything that is going to be taxed. I mean everything. Ninety to 95 percent of what you purchase under bill number 76 is going to be taxed.

You have people in Pennsylvania paying $10,000 to $15,000 in property and more in the main line of Philadelphia. On the other hand, you have senior citizens in the coal region paying $800 to $900 in property tax. Now everyone is subject to same sales tax. The difference is one family has $10,000 to 15,000, and the poor senior citizen has $800 to $900 to cover the same tax. Another thing: all the sales tax collected goes to the state. You know what will happen, money for Philadelphia and Pittsburgh for public transportation, etc.

I do not want any political double talk.

This letter is going to Mr. Argall and Mr. Knowles registered.
