Lions business

The board of directors for the Western Pocono Lions will meet at 7 p.m. today at the Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville.

All Lions are welcome.

Home Association

The West End Home Association will meet at 7:30 p.m. today at the Post Home in Gilbert.

PVEN board

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network board of directors will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church.

The PVEN serves residents of Eldred, Ross, Polk, Chestnuthill, Hamilton and Jackson townships through its Community Service Center in McIlhaney and provides ecumenical church services for several holidays.

It comprises 16 member churches of various denominations.

PV Band parents

The Pleasant Valley Band Parents will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the PVHS Band Room.

Legion meets

The American Legion Post 927 will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Legion post home in Gilbert.

Monroe seniors menu

This Friday, the menu for the Monroe Chestnuthill Seniors meeting in Zion Lutheran's Fellowship Hall is crumb topped fish. Next Wednesday it is stuffed cabbage rolls.

Attendees are reminded to call site manager Dolores Casalasprom at 570-242-6770 by 11 a.m., one day in advance.

On Nov. 12 there will be a special program at 11 a.m. at the Chestnuthill Center. Angela Tullo from Compassionate Care Hospice will present information on Alzheimer's disease.

Leo officers

This year's officers for the Pleasant Valley Leo Club are: Olivia Karaman, president; Kayla Wolf, vice president; Caroline Rozwadowski, secretary; and Elric Caponsacco, treasurer.

The club participated in the district's trick-or-treat night. Members also collected 400 Halloween costumes for children in the district.

Lioness service

The Western Pocono Lioness Club celebrated Halloween with other organizations at Chestnuthill Park. Over 500 children came to the club's window.

Fliers for the Kris Kringle event, a first-time project by the Lioness set for Nov. 15, were handed out. The celebration will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at Chestnuthill Park building. Children will have their pictures taken with Santa. They will also make two ornaments for their tree and decorate a sugar cookie.

There will be Christmas stories, music and possibly some singing.

The club will start its soup and candy sales.

The next club board meeting is Nov. 12 at Cherry's Family Restaurant. The club's monthly meeting dates are changed to Nov. 18 and Dec. 16 to accommodate the holidays.

Pantry open

The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC, also known as the SFRC, will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. A valid driver's license or state ID with address proving residency in the West End is required.

Touch of Home

Operation: Touch of Home will collect products at Kinsley's Shop Rite in Brodheadsville from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Drinks, food, games, music and toiletries will be sent to local service members who are away from home for the holidays.

No glass containers or aerosol items.

All Sports Club

The Pleasant Valley All Sports Club will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the high school library.

Eastern Star meets

A meeting of Monroe Chapter 99 of the Eastern Star will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Rimrock Masonic Center on Rimrock Drive.

927 Riders

The 927 Riders meet at 10:30 a.m. the second Sunday of the month at the Legion in Gilbert.

Community meal

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church's community meal will be Sunday from 3 to 4 p.m. in McCawley Hall. West End Missions holds its meals at Our Lady Queen of Peace every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Effort UMW meets

The United Methodist Women of Effort UMC will meet at 7 p.m. Monday. It is the thanks offering and a 2015 program review meeting.

Hostesses are Ruth Oakes and Barbara Stephan.

Knit and crochet

Zion Lutheran's Knit and Crochet group will meet Tuesday, beginning at 1 p.m.

Blood drive

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. on Veterans Day at the Wawa in Brodheadsville.

PTO Meeting

The Pleasant Valley Middle School PTO will meet at 9 a.m. Nov. 12. The Pleasant Valley Intermediate School PTO will meet at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 12.

Security event

Houses of Worship Safety and Security Training presented by Pocono Mountains Houses of Worship Security Task Force will be held at Effort UMC from 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 15. This program is presented by security specialist Don Ernst.

Local attendees

The District 14U Lions Council meeting was held last week at the Mahoning Valley Ambulance Building in Lehighton. Attending from the Western Pocono Lions Club were Past District Gov. Bob Kelsey and former club President Charles Rush.

Representing the Western Pocono Lioness Club were four Lionesses, including Ruth Hebron, Cynthia Waters and Joan Hoffman.

The theme centered on the 75th anniversary of Leader Dog as well as ongoing Lions District business.
