Veterans parade

Tamaqua's Veterans Day Parade will be held this Saturday, with the line of march scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Participants will meet at 900 E. Broad St., the former Maff Motors, at 9 a.m. for staging purposes.

This year's grand marshal is Charlie Hollenbach, a veteran of World War II and the Korean War and an active member of the Tamaqua American Legion, C.H. Berry Post 173.

Parade organizers welcome everyone to walk or drive in the parade to show their support of America's military men and women.

Adult Day Care

The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center has a variety of activities planned for November, including celebrating Veterans Day on Tuesday.

Other activities for the month include: Nov. 13, special entertainment; Nov. 14, painting class; Nov. 18, pie baking; Nov. 19, Salvation Army visit; Nov. 20, Thanksgiving celebration/ lunch; Nov. 21, visit from St. Jerome's kindergarten class; Nov. 25, countdown to Christmas bingo.

In addition to weekly sing-alongs, exercise sessions, a variety of therapies and social games, the center provides for hairstyling and manicure service.

Both require advance notice. Breakfast, lunch and a snack are served daily.

Anyone interested in obtaining more information about the center, becoming a member of the board of directors, or services provided may call 570-668-6577 or visit Monday through Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

St. John Lutheran

The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at 10:30 a.m. and the allegro bell choir will rehearse at 5:30 p.m. Sunday is also the deadline to order pumpkin rolls.

Activities for next week include: Monday, church council meeting at 7 p.m., deadline for Messenger items; Thursday, learning ministry meets at 6 p.m., angel choir meets at 6 p.m., shepherd choir practice is at 6:30 p.m., and the chancel choir will rehearse at 7:30 p.m.

St. Peter's Union

Sunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. This week's service will include a Joyous Noise Offering. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the preschool basket raffle will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Confirmation class will meet at 11:30 a.m.; St. Luke's Remembrance service at 3 p.m.; bell choir will meet at 6 p.m.; Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, Cub Scouts and Cadets will meet at 6 p.m.

Activities for next week include: Tuesday, newsletter deadline, prayer group at 5 p.m., Wednesday, retirees will meet at 10 a.m.; Thursday, worship and music committee meeting at 6 p.m., junior choir practice at 7 p.m. and senior choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, Confirmation class field trip at 5:15 p.m.

The dinner theater group will present "Mission Impossible" at 6 p.m. on Nov. 14 and 15.
