Seniors menu
The Senior Center in Brodheadsville at Zion Lutheran in the Fellowship Hall offers pork and bell peppers this Friday, chicken and stuffing bake next Wednesday, and Parmesan baked fish on Nov. 21.

PVHS fun event
The Harlem Rockets Basketball & Comedy Show will take place at the Pleasant Valley High School gymnasium Friday, beginning at 7 p.m.
Alice in Zombieland
The Pleasant Valley Middle School presents Alice in Zombieland at 7 p.m. Friday, as well as at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday.
There is a free presentation of this play for seniors at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. RSVP to Grace Marks at 570-977-4437 if interested in attending.
Lioness special
The Western Pocono Lioness Club is hosting its first Kookies, Krafts and Kriss Kringle from 1 to 3 p.m. this Saturday at the Chestnuthill Park for children 10 and under.
Children will have pictures taken with Kriss Kringle, have an opportunity to decorate a cookie, make two ornaments for their tree and hear Lioness Nancy Beck tell Christmas stories.
Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, the November club meeting will be on Tuesday. The social hour will start at 6 p.m. and the Lionesses will introduce Cindy Starner from the Monroe County Vision Resource Center as a guest speaker.
Teatime at center
A Mother-Daughter Tea for mothers and daughters ages 2 to 9 will be held at the library's Heritage Center in Brodheadsville on Saturday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Participants are invited to bring a favorite stuffed animal or doll for the fairy tale-themed program. Seating is limited so call the library at 570-992-7934 or the Heritage Center at 570-402-1906 for information and to reserve a seat.
Adoption Day
Safe Haven Pet Rescue will hold a dog adoption day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Tractor Supply, Route 209 in Brodheadsville.
The West End group will have many young dogs available. Safe Haven requires a pre-adoption application with references and a home visit before adoption.

Community members are invited to Cherry's Sunset Restaurant, Route 209 in Kresgeville, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to meet the volunteers of Safe Haven Dog Rescue.
Special speaker
The Western Pocono Women's Club will be learning more about the history of the West End at its November meeting at 7 p.m. Monday. Carol Kern, director of the Western Pocono Community Library, will speak about the newest museum in the West End, The Heritage Center of the Western Pocono Library. All interested women 18 years and older are welcome to attend this meeting at the Effort United Methodist Church.
On the second Wednesday of each month, the ladies of the club hold a cookie and juice social at Getz Personal Care Home. Now that fall is here, members are again meeting to make Quilts for Kids. The goal is to beat the 50 quilts they made last year.
This service club clips coupons to send monthly to service personnel in Okinawa, Japan, and collects clothing and diaper donations for Angel's Closet and food for the Effort Methodist Church Supplemental Food Pantry's Thanksgiving baskets.
The ladies have taken up their knitting needles and crochet hooks to make chemo hats to donate to area hospitals and hat and mitten sets to send to the Children's Miracle Network.
They invite the community to see the club's award-winning triangle garden on Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township across from the Chestnuthill Diner. The garden is dressed up for the Thanksgiving season.
The Western Pocono Women's Club meets at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month, March through December, at the Effort United Methodist Church on Merwinsburg Road in Effort. It is open to all women 18 years and older.

conferences
The Pleasant Valley High School's parent-teacher conferences will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. They will continue the following Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m., as well as on Friday.
Volunteers training
The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network will hold a training session for its volunteers at noon Tuesday.

The Chestnuthill Township board of supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The township Planning Commission will meet at 7 p.m., Nov. 19.

The Pleasant Valley PAC will meet at 10 a.m. Nov. 19.
Lions speaker
The Western Pocono Lions Club will meet Nov. 19 at the Old Mill Pizza Restaurant in Sciota. The speaker at the November dinner meeting will be Maria Donato from Keystone Blood Bank.
The social hour begins at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting is at 7.
Thanksgiving meal
Effort UMC will once again host a Thanksgiving Day dinner for those who are alone or are hungry. Dinner will be served at 2 p.m.

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church will host a free event featuring the John Jacobs Next Generation Power Force, a strength team with a message of hope.
