Board of Health

The November meeting of the Tamaqua Board of Health was held at the municipal building with James Gormley, Earl Boettger, Shirley Becker, health officer Judith Hadesty R.N. and health enforcement officer Matthew Meyers in attendance.

Meyers reported 62 health licenses have been approved in 2014. He also received and adjusted 15 complaints: eight concerning trash/rubbish; three for animal waste; three properties determined to be unfit for human habitation; and one leaking sewer. There were no cases of reportable diseases for October.

The board meets the first Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m. in the Tamaqua Municipal Building.

Card shower

A get-well card shower is being held for Paul Hertzig of Tamaqua, who is currently a patient in St. Luke's University Hospital-Bethlehem Campus. Anyone interested in sending well wishes and brightening his day may send cards to: Paul Hertzig, St. Luke's Hospital, 801 Ostrum St., Bethlehem PA.

Tax exemptions

The Schuylkill County and Tamaqua Borough Per Capita and Occupation Tax Exemption Forms for the year 2015 are now available for borough of Tamaqua residents.

The exemption forms can be obtained at the Tamaqua Municipal Building, 320 E. Broad St., Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Forms will also be available at tax collector Pamela McCullion's office, the Tamaqua Area School District Administration building, the Tamaqua ABC High Rise, Majestic House Apartment Complex, the Tamaqua Public Library and the Tamaqua Post Office.

Residents must complete the form each year to qualify for the tax exemption.

Exoneration forms must be submitted by Jan. 30, 2015.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. services Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school will meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the monthly service at the Hometown Nursing Center will be held at 2:30 p.m.

Activities for next week include: Monday, messy stuff for teens meets at 6:30 p.m.; Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m., GriefShare meets at 7 p.m., TYM staff meeting at 8 p.m.; musician rehearsal at 8:30 a.m., praise practice at 9 a.m.

St. Peter's Union

Sunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at 11:30 a.m.; a dinner theater presentation will be held at 1 p.m.; bell choir will rehearse at 6 p.m.; Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, Cub Scouts and Cadets will meet at 6 p.m.

Activities for next week include: Monday, church board meets at 6 p.m.; Tuesday, prayer group at 5 p.m., called to care committee meets at 6 p.m., Women's Association of St. Peter's meets at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, apple dumpling pickup from noon to 5 p.m., church staff meeting at 6 p.m., cherub choir rehearsal at 6:30 p.m., junior choir practice at 7 p.m. and senior choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.

The Nov. 23 worship service will be following by the "hanging of the greens."
