Western Pocono Lioness
The Western Pocono Lioness Club will meet at 6 p.m. Oct. 28, beginning with a social hour with Lioness dressing in their best 1960s-themed outfits. The business meeting begins at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at the American Legion in Gilbert.

Rotary speaker
The West End Rotary Club will host Dr. Angelo Ortenzi at its Thursday breakfast meeting. He will speak about Hershey and Pennsylvania.
The club meets at 7:30 a.m. Thursdays at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville.
Fire truck visit
A West End Fire Truck will visit the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville at 6:30 p.m., Thursday.
PV Board meets
The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m. Thursday in the administrative office in Brodheadsville.
Monroe seniors meet
The West End group of Monroe County's seniors continue to meet at Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville. The next meeting is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.
Those wishing to have buy lunch are asked to call site manager, Dolores Casalaspro at 570-242-6770 by 11 a.m., one day in advance. The menu calls for beef and vegetable stew.
The following week it is glazed turkey on Wednesday and chicken and stuffing bake on Friday.
PTO Bear Walk
The Pleasant Valley High School track will be busy Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. with the PTO Bear Walk. Rain date is Oct. 24.
Food pantry open
The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC, also known as SFRC, will be open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.
The center is seeking donations for Thanksgiving and Christmas disbursements, including canned yams, stuffing mix, turkey gravy, turkey broth and cranberry sauce. Information concerning donations of turkeys will be forthcoming.
Fall Festival
Pleasant Valley Assembly of God, Brodheadsville, will hold its fall festival Saturday from noon to 3 p.m., rain or shine.
It will include many free treats, including face painting, a hay ride, information from Pocono Health System and more.
World Lions Day
Members of the Western Pocono Lions Club will again be involved in the celebration of World Lions Day and will take residents from local nursing homes for a ride to see the fall foliage on Saturday.
Special speaker
Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church on Pilgrim Way, Brodheadsville, will welcome the Rev. Daniel Morales on Sunday. Next Sunday it will be Bill Campbell. The worship service is at 10:15 a.m.
Harvest Home
Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, will celebrate Harvest Home this Sunday. Church members and friends are asked to bring canned goods and dry goods, as well, as any produce from the garden to be a part of the service. The church will be collecting items during October. Donations will be given to the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network's Community Service Center.
Legion events
The 927 Riders are slated to meet at 10:30 a.m. and the Sons of the Legion are scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. The Legion Auxiliary is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. Monday, and the Korean War Vets at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Knit & Crochet
Zion's Knit & Crochet Group will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Parish Hall, to make stitches for those in need.
Community meals
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church Community meals in McCawley Hall will take place Sunday from 3 to 4 p.m. and Oct. 15,
12:30 p.m. for the luncheon.
Valor Foundation event
The ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Major Paul Syverson Veterans Sanctuary for Valor Foundation will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in Jonas.
Student holiday
Due to a staff development day on Monday, Pleasant Valley schools are closed.
UMW meets
Effort United Methodist Church's United Methodist Women's group will meet at 7 p.m. Monday. The Gardeners for Glory will do a presentation on planting lavender and the benefits of lavender. Hostesses for the meeting are Ruth Flechsig and Jan Decker.

Parent meetings
The PVHS PAC group will meet at 10 a.m. at the high school next Tuesday. The PVI PTO will meet at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday as well.
Chestnuthill meeting
The Chestnuthill Township Planning Commission is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. next Wednesday at the municipal building.
Donations tallied
The Western Pocono Lions Club recently turned in 1,113 pairs of eyeglasses to the larger Lions recycling program for helping the world family see better program.
The club's next regular meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at The Old Mill Pizza on Route 209 in Sciota.
