Relay for Life
American Cancer Society's West End Relay for Life Kick Off will be held at 6:30 p.m. today at Pleasant Valley Middle School cafeteria, Route 115, Brodheadsville.

Library guest
Author Bill Lowenburg will be signing books at the Western Pocono Community Library today, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
On Thursday the book discussion at the library will be "The Solace of Open Spaces" by Gretel Ehrlich. It will begin at 7 p.m.
Rotary speaker
The West End Rotary will welcome Jennifer Bayer, recreation therapist, at its 7:30 a.m. meeting Thursday. Her topic will be Alzheimer's and Dementia Care in Monroe County.
The club meets at the Western Pocono Community Library.
Zion Seniors meet
At 11 a.m. Thursday, Zion Seniors will gather for the group's monthly meeting. Anyone 50 years and older is invited. Participants are reminded to bring a sandwich if so desired. It is the annual soup day for the group.
Beverages are provided.
Scattergories will be among the fun activities the group will enjoy.
PVE event
The Pleasant Valley Elementary School will hold a family math and reading night from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Financial Aid
Pleasant Valley High School will hold a financial aid night, beginning at 6:30 p.m., Thursday in the new auditorium.
Keep Sunday Holy meets
The next meeting of the ecumenical Keep Sunday Holy group will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Our Lady Queen of Peace Café at the chapel entrance to the building.
The group will be discussing proposed mission statements and ideas for moving forward.

The American Red Cross will be at Getz Personal Care Home in Jonas from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday for a blood drive.

Clothing swap at PVE
This Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., there will be a fall clothing swap at the Pleasant Valley Elementary School.
Garlic planting
The Garden of Giving in McMichaels welcomes volunteers to come and help plant garlic on Saturday and Sunday.

Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church offers a blended contemporary worship service at 10:15 a.m.

Womb blessing
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will celebrate a Rite of Blessing a Child within the Womb at all Masses this weekend. Father will bless baby booties to be given to each child.
Whether one has just learned that one is pregnant or will soon give birth, the church says not to be shy, but to come and celebrate the blessing of baby and you.
Community meal
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church's next community meal is in McCawley Hall.
CSS will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday. That is a date change.
Greet and eat
Safe Haven Dog Rescue volunteers invite folks for a bite to eat and to meet the volunteers of Safe Haven Dog Rescue at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cherry's Sunset Restaurant, Route 209 in Kresgeville.
Safe Haven Rescue needs volunteers to help with adoption days, fundraising, transporting dogs to vets and groomers and fostering homeless dogs until they find their forever homes. For more information about Safe Haven and to find volunteer and foster applications, visit www.SafeHavenPa.org.

Trick or Treat
A community trick or treat night will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Pleasant Valley High School. Proceeds will go to charity and the school's courtyard garden.
It will be held rain or shine as it is an indoor event.
All children must be accompanied by a parent, grandparent, adult or older sibling.

Township Supervisors meet
The Chestnuthill Township Board of Supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Municipal Building on Route 715, Brodheadsville.
Towel shower
St. Peter's UMC, Saylorsburg, is accepting new, absorbent cotton or linen kitchen towels for drying dishes.
The kitchen towel shower continues through the month of October. They will be put to good use during the church's November pork and sauerkraut dinner.
Church family members will be serving at the Stroudsburg Soup Kitchen on Oct. 26, Reformation Sunday.
Regional meeting
The CJERP Regional Comprehensive Plan meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Chestnuthill Township Municipal Building.
Music provider
Mrs. Rachael Heater of Saylorsburg will provide the special music at the upcoming Bible Club Adult Banquet being held Oct. 23 at Streamside Camp and Conference Center near Reeders.
The speaker will be Dr. Marty Windle, president of BCM International from Lancaster. His theme is be thankful and encourage.

Peace poster contest
Western Pocono Lions Club is again sponsoring the Lions International Peace Poster contest in cooperation with the Pleasant Valley Middle School. Entries will soon be judged and the winner of the local competition will be forwarded to the District 14U Peace Poster Committee to compete with other district Lions Club winners.
Bingo night
The West End Park and Open Space Commission will host a bingo night at the Chestnuthill Township Park at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Doors open at 5:30.
There is a 50/50 guaranteed payout. Specials, pull tabs, door prizes and refreshments are available.
