A hundred years
LaRue Smith of Palmerton celebrated her 100th birthday on Thursday.
Born in Aquashicola, she attended Aquashicola School for eight years.
She helped her parents on their chicken and turkey farm until she married Albert Smith.
LaRue and Albert celebrated 24 years of marriage before he passed away in 1966.
They had four children, six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Smith worked several years in the garment industry until she retired.
She was an ardent crocheter and bowled on a bowling league until the age of 91.
LaRue enjoyed traveling and visited Germany and took several cruises.
Very attuned to staying fit, she was an avid walker and continues to walk several times a day at her residence at The Village in Palmerton and eats sensibly, although she admits to having a sweet tooth.
LaRue likes to play cards, especially Hoss and Scat.
To celebrate this special milestone, LaRue was treated to a special dinner out with her only surviving child, her daughter Romaine Biege, and her husband, Conrad Biege.
