Coats and boots

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is holding a coat and boot drive for the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network, both new and gently used.

The church is accepting donations in all sizes, male and female, child to adult. Donations may be put on the marked table in McCawley Hall.

Senior lunches

West End Seniors meeting at the Chestnuthill Senior Center at Zion Lutheran Fellowship Hall this Friday will have Italian chicken for lunch. At the next meeting, Oct. 29, lunch will be beef and bean chili. Attendees are reminded to call the site manager for meal reservations by 11 a.m., one day in advance. For the West End group it is Dolores Casalaspro, 570-242-6770.

Rotary speaker

When the West End Rotary Club meets at 7:30 a.m. Thursday at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville, the speaker will be Jessica Reitz, curator for the The Heritage Center of the Western Pocono Community Library. Her topic will be History and Culture of the West End.

PVI PAC meets

The Pleasant Valley Intermediate School's PAC will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday.

PV School Board

The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Administrative Office in Brodheadsville.

Food pantry open

Supplemental Food Resource Center, a ministry sponsored by Effort United Methodist Church, will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. Volunteers are always welcome and needed.

People seeking help from the pantry are required to show a valid driver's license or state ID with address proving residency in the West End.

Litter pickup

The fall Regional Park Litter Pickup will be from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday. Gloves, vests and bags will be provided.

Participants are asked to meet at the Chestnuthill Park at 8 a.m.

Pet parade

The West End Park and Open Space Commission will host the annual Pet Parade on Saturday at the VanBuskirk-Haney Park, Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg, at 11 a.m.

There will be prizes for the most original, cutest, scariest and owner look-alike.

Reformation Sunday

Zion Lutheran Church will celebrate Reformation Sunday this week. The church has worship services at 8 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday school is at 9:15.

Special speaker

The Rev. Leon Morgan will be the speaker at the Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church in Brodheadsville this Sunday.

The service is at 10:15 a.m.; Sunday school classes are at 9:30 a.m.

Adoption day

On Sunday, Boomer's Angels will be at Tractor Supply on Route 209 in Brodheadsville from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to present some of the dogs available for adoption.

Knit and crochet

Zion Lutheran's Knit & Crochet group will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Parish Hall.

West End Republicans

The West End Republican Club will meet Oct. 28 at Cherry's Family Restaurant in Kresgeville beginning at 7 p.m. The optional dinner is at 6 o'clock.

Joining the West End Republican Club for a combined meeting will be the Monroe County Republican Committee and the Monroe County Republican Women.

Lioness Club meets

The Western Pocono Lioness Club will meet Tuesday at the American Legion on Route 209 in Gilbert. The social hour begins at 6 p.m. and business meeting is at 7.

Saylorsburg park

Playworld Systems of Lewisburg has donated a playground structure for the VanBuskirk-Haney Park in honor of the victims who were killed during a public meeting on Aug. 5, 2013, at the Ross Township Municipal Building in Saylorsburg.

The playground is here, but needs to be assembled. A community build is scheduled for 8 a.m. Nov. 22.

Bernie Kozen, West End Park and Open Space Commission executive director, says any volunteer who is willing to follow instructions will be accepted.
