Do not vote for liars

Published October 25. 2014 09:00AM

Dear Editor,

As someone once asked: How do you know when a politician is lying? Answer: When his lips are moving. Unfortunately, this continues to become less of a joke and more of an accepted reality.

Another election is coming up and your vote is important! Do not vote for liars. You may think that just because a candidate represents your favorite party that his or her lies do not matter and you are OK with this as a method to reach the party's goals.

Worthwhile goals do not need lies for support. Most of us were taught as kids to tell the truth, even those of us running for a political office.

Why is it that lying to Congress is a felony, but we are expected to accept lies from Congress? When an elected official is known to have lied, he or she should be challenged and not be protected or feared because we are expected to have respect for his or her office.

Even the politicians who are proven liars think that they deserve the title "honorable." Arrogance is not a replacement for honesty. Our elected officials are supposed to work for us. If any of us would lie to our boss at work, we would be fired. We should expect honesty from our "public servants."

Please require honesty from everyone you are willing to vote for and do not promote a candidate for public office who does not always tell the truth, even if that candidate represents your favorite political party. Vote for candidates who have strong principles instead of those willing to bend for political correctness. Be wary of the lifetime politicians who will say anything to stay in power. There are honest candidates out there, and we need them to lead our great country.
