Holiday help

The Tamaqua Salvation Army, 105 W. Broad St., begins its Angel Tree program today. Angel Tree tags include the name, age, gender, clothing sizes and special Christmas needs and wishes of a child. Deadline for items to be turned in will be 4 p.m. Dec. 10.

Thanksgiving food baskets will be distributed from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 25. Christmas food baskets, angel tree and toy distribution will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 18.

Senior citizens

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met Oct. 23 with 61 members in attendance. Vice president Nancy Gerber conducted the business session and provided an inspirational reading, "God Is Near."

Vern Balliet was installed as the new treasurer. Members discussed a Chinese auction for Nov. 13 and set the date for the annual Christmas party as Dec. 4.

The meeting concluded with cards and social games.

The seniors meet at 1 p.m. every Thursday at the Masonic Lodge on Route 54 (East) in Hometown. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The lodge is handicap accessible.

Light the night

The New Life Assembly of God Church will host its "Light Up The Night" event on trick or treat night Friday. Open to children between the ages of 3 and 12 accompanied by an adult, the event will include games, candy, popcorn, cotton candy and door prizes. The door prizes will be drawn every half-hour between 6 and 8 p.m.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. services Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school will meet at 9:15 a.m.

Activities for next week include: Monday, messy stuff for teens meets at 6:30 p.m.; Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m., Good News Club meets at 3:45 p.m. at the South Ward Playground; Wednesday, Psalms Growth group meets at 1 p.m. at the Majestic House, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m., GriefShare meets at 7 p.m.; Saturday, men's breakfast at 7 a.m., musician rehearsal at 8:30 a.m., praise practice at 9 a.m., movie presentation at 1 p.m. at New Life Assembly of God Church, Schuylkill Avenue.

Zion Lewistown

Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at this Sunday's service in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school will be held at 9:15 a.m.

Upcoming events include: Bible study sessions, 12:30 p.m. on Thursdays; Confirmation class, 6:30 p.m., Thursdays; guild meeting, Nov. 6.
