Summit Hill

Fall cleanup

Summit Hill will host its annual fall cleanup in the upcoming weeks.

Knepper's Trailer Court, East and West White Bear Drive and the east side of the borough will be picked up on Sept. 17; while the west side of town along with Laurel Drive and East and West Mountaintop Road will be picked up on Sept. 24.

Make sure all items are placed out the night before.

Items to be picked up include: no more than five tires, tire rims, auto body parts, refrigerators, freezers, vending machines, dehumidifiers, water coolers, heat pumps, washers, dryers and stoves.

All items must have all chemicals removed and doors taken off. Freon must be removed from refrigerators, air conditioners, etc. and tagged or they will not take them.

In addition, up to 10 bags of garbage will be collected.

No electronics such as televisions, computers, keyboards, monitors, etc., will be picked up at this time.

Flag program

The Summit Hill Lions Club is continuing its American flag program. Throughout the good weather months, the flag will fly in Ludlow Park in memory or honor of veterans from the community.

During the week of Sept. 8, the flag will fly in memory of Joseph E. O'Gurek.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served as a technician 4th grade with Battery A in the European Theater of Operations.

Family members of veterans, or veterans themselves, can request to have the flag flown in honor or memory of any town veteran. The program typically runs through the end of November, although there currently are no more requests to be scheduled. For more information, contact Joseph O'Gurek at 570-645-5171.
