Altar & Rosary
The Altar & Rosary Society of Our Lady Queen of Peace will meet in McCawley Hall at 6:30 p.m. today. Women of the parish are welcome to join the group.
Zion's Seniors
The Senior Citizen's Group at Zion Lutheran will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday. This group is for anyone age 50 and older.
Participants are reminded to bring a sandwich. Beverages are provided.
KSH meeting
The community is reminded that the next meeting of the Keep Sundays Holy will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church. Participants are asked to use the office entrance on the side of the building by the small playground area.
On the agenda is recapping the West End Fair tent, sharing ideas and possibilities for next year, and discussing plans for moving forward.
Anniversary
celebration
McMichaels United Methodist Church continues its 150th anniversary celebration Sunday. The Rev. Heidi Silliman, a prior pastor at McMichaels, will visit and share a few words with the church family. Actor John Wesley will visit and handle the service as if from that time.
The anniversary cake will be served along with beverages after worship at 9:30 a.m. and old hymns will be sung in honor of John Wesley.

Dog adoption day
Safe Haven Pet Rescue will hold adoption hours from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Tractor Supply on Route 209 in Brodheadsville. Safe Haven will have many young dogs available. The organization requires a pre-adoption application with references and a home visit before adoption.

PV Middle School
The PVI PTO will meet from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
On Friday, PVI PTO will host a Sixth Grade Meet Your Friends event from 4-6 p.m.
PV Elementary
From 6-8 p.m. today the school will hold the K-1 PVE Open House and Book Fair.
On Thursday, grades two and three will follow suit from 6-8 p.m., holding their Open House and Book Fair.
Knit and Crochet
Zion Lutheran's Knit and Crochet group will meet at 1 p.m. next Tuesday in the parish hall.
West End GOP meets
The next regular meeting of the West End Republican Club will be 7 p.m. Sept. 23 at Cherry's Sunset Family Restaurant in Kresgeville. The optional dinner is at 6 p.m.
Democrats to meet
The West End Democrats will meet Sept. 25 at the West End Firehouse in Brodheadsville.
Candidates are allotted 3 minutes to speak.
PVEN needs
The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network serves hundreds of families in the West End. Currently needed are: boys and girls school socks (all sizes); diapers, newborn, 2, 4; boys and girls winter coats (all sizes); and men's winter coats and sweat pants (all sizes)
Donations may be brought to the service center on Tuesdays and Fridays, 9-11:30 a.m. and other times by appointment.
Library movie
The Western Pocono Community Library continues its Robin Williams Perspective, showing the PG-13 rated "Patch Adams."
Movies begin at 1 p.m. each Saturday in the Community Room.
Animal blessing
All of God's creatures, big and small, and their guardians are invited to Our Lady Queen of Peace's annual Blessing of the Animals at 10 a.m. Sept. 27.
Participants are asked to bring pets to the front of the church by the Jesus statue.
Mortgage Burning,
At 5:30 p.m. today, the Western Pocono Community Library will celebrate its mortgage burning as part of its 40th anniversary celebration. Those hoping to attend should have made reservation to do that earlier in the month.
A thousand articles
The sixth- through eighth-grade classes at Our Lady Queen of Peace are holding an Operation Touch of Home drive. The following items are being collected: crackers, balloons, fly swatters, batteries, chap-stick, sunscreen, deck of cards, Nerf products, toiletries for both men and women, note cards/stationary, energy bars, gum, black socks, foot powder, bug spray.
The classes hope to meet their goal of 1,000 items for the troops. Donations can be dropped off in McCawley Hall on the tables marked Operation Touch of Home.
