Arts night

The Tamaqua Area Middle School Spring Art Show and Choral Concert will be held Thursday in the middle school.

The art show will be held from 7-7:30 p.m. in the hallway outside of the auditorium. Students from sixth, seventh and eighth grades will have their artwork displayed, including paintings, 3-D interiors, murals, sketches, masks, group projects, cultural art, tiles, watercolor, fashion design, collages and more. There is no entry fee for the art show.

The Spring Chorus Concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be held in the district auditorium. Performances will be offered by the Jazz Choral/Concert Choir and the Middle School Select and General Choruses.

Hunger walk

The Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship Network will sponsor a "Hunger Walk" on Sunday to help local families in need.

The walk will be the culmination of Hunger Weekend, when organizations, businesses, church groups and individuals will be collecting food and funds to benefit the food banks at the Tamaqua Salvation Army, Primitive Methodist Church and Trinity United Church of Christ.

The walk will begin and end at the Tamaqua Family Practice parking lot on South Railroad Street. The distance will be approximately 1 mile.

Registration forms are available at the Tamaqua Community Art Center, 125 Pine St., and at www.taffn.org.

Senior Citizens

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met April 23 at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St. The meeting was attended by 64 members, with President Melody Weicker conducting the business session.

Secretary Ruthann Feane provided an inspirational reading, "Thank You God For Everything." Members brought canned goods to be donated to the Hunger Walk, which is being sponsored by the Tamaqua Area Faith and fellowship Network.

This week's meeting will include a birthday celebration. Canned goods will still be accepted for the Hunger Walk.

The next meeting will be at 1 p.m. Thursday. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The YMCA is handicap accessible.

Garden hotline

Penn State Master Gardeners of Schuylkill County have established a Horticulture Hotline for county residents with questions about their lawns, landscapes and gardens. The hotline is staffed entirely by volunteers and will be open Mondays and Wednesdays through Sept. 30. Hours will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Help is also available by emailing questions to schuylkillmg@psu.edu.

The master gardeners have an office at the Schuylkill County Cooperative Extension Office, 1202 Ag Center Drive in Pottsville, but are also available by phone, 570-622-4225, ext. 20 and 23.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school will meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the ministry council will meet at 11:45 a.m.; the Hunger Walk will begin at 2 p.m., followed by an ice cream social at Zion's Lutheran Church.

Activities for next week include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, sew much more growth group meets at 1 p.m., Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m., GriefShare meets at 7 p.m., TYM staff meeting at 8 p.m.; Thursday, National Day of Prayer event, noon, at Tamaqua Borough Hall, lead beyond our walls group meets at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, the art of marriage growth group will meet at 6 p.m.
