N'western, Lehighton golf winners

Northwestern and Lehighton picked up wins in golf on the local scholastic sports scene on Thursday.

GOLF

Northwestern-Palmerton

In a Colonial League contest featuring two Times News area teams, Northwestern topped Palmerton, 450-481.

Mason Vogwill led the Tigers with a score of 85 during the win. Tyler Wiik and Brad Rex both recorded scores of 87.

Palmerton's low-score was Johnathan Frace 85. Jon Schwartz 92 was solid for the Bombers with an 82.

Lehighton earned its first Schuylkill League victory of the year against Jim Thorpe, 399-414.

Nick McGeehan scored Lehighton's low-card with a 90. Cody Semmel and Devin Scott both shot a 102.

Carter Wolfe of Jim Thorpe had a match-low 85. John Fedora shot an Olympian second-best 104.

Lehighton improves to 1-4 overall, as Jim Thorpe is now 0-3 on the year.

Pottsville defeated Tamaqua in Schuylkill League action, 314-366.

The Tide had three competitors shoot in the 70's on the afternoon. Mike Opake had the low card of the match with a 75. Alex Everly shot a 78, as Mike Decolli recorded a 79.

Carson Schoener led the Raiders with a score of 82. Tyler Brisbrow carded a 94, good enough for Tamaqua's second best score.

Pottsville-Tamaqua

Tamaqua posted a 5-2 non-league win over Pottsville.

The Lady Raiders took four of the five singles matches, with Maddie Davis, Allison Pedersen, Amy Gardiner and Emma Osenbach all claiming victories.

Davis and Pedersen were also victorious in the No. 1 doubles match.
