Alleviate holiday stress by crafting

Published December 01. 2015 04:00PM

New Seasons at Blue Mountain Health System will offer a Holiday Lunch and Learn Crafting Event to alleviate stress around the holidays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Blue Mountain Medical Plaza, 512 Bank St. in Bowmanstown.

Making your own gifts not only saves you money and adds meaning during the holiday season, it can go even one step further. A recent report by CNN found that crafting can be of help to people who suffer from anxiety or depression.

The process of working with one's hands focuses the mind, eases stress and can increase happiness. It's thought that when you're being creative, your brain releases dopamine, a natural antidepressant.

Enjoy lunch while art therapist Kathy Karanink guides you on some step-by-step projects you can create during the event and a variety of projects you can make at home.

A program fee of $10 per person includes lunch, refreshments, educational session and supplies.

Class size is limited and preregistration is required at 610-377-7070.
