Lehighton driver swerves to avoid deer, crashes

State police at Lehighton reported investigating a one-vehicle crash at 3:01 p.m. Thursday along Wintergreen Road, in Lower Towamensing Township, Carbon County.

Troopers said Cody A. Wallace, 16, of Lehighton, was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Camaro southbound, near the intersection with Hill Road, when he swerved into the oncoming lane to avoid a deer. Wallace then lost control of the vehicle which spun a quarter turn clockwise as it re-entered the southbound lane.

Wallace continued to travel south with the Camaro going onto the berm and striking a mailbox with the driver's side front end. It then continued to spin another quarter turn clockwise coming to rest in a grassy area.

Wallace was not injured, but the car had to be towed. Wallace was cited for the crash.
