Bill owed

Credit defaults

The following actions were filed by credit card companies, or their collection agencies, for alleged defaults on credit card/loan accounts.

Discover Bank, New Albany, Ohio, filed two actions as follows: Daniel D. Lees Jr., 23 Graver St., Lehighton, seeking $5,429.51; and Christopher C. Wollan, 22 E. Market St., Tresckow, seeking $9,599.04.

Portfolio Recovery Associates, Norfolk, Virginia, filed three actions as follows: Michael Tecce, 144 Winding Way, Albrightsville, seeking 42,202.24; Keith and Dawn R. McCabe, 766 Main Road, Lehighton, seeking $4,482.58; and Erica and Lawrence T. Degennaro, 34 Berry Lane, Jim Thorpe, seeking $3,936.56.

Bill for services

Napa Genuine Parts Co., c/o Box 414988, Boston, Massachusetts, filed an action against Susan Behler, dba Behler's Garage, 1240 Hahns Dairy Road, Palmerton, alleging she owes a bill for services and merchandise provided. Sought is $2,334.27 plus interest, costs and fees.

Revenue from deeds

Carbon County Recorder of Deeds Emmett P. McCall reported his office recorded 201 deeds, 181 mortgages and 303 other writs during the month of November.

As a result of those transactions, McCall turned over to the Carbon County General Fund the sum of $27,493.87. A breakdown of that revenue includes: transfer fees, $20,328; data processing fees, $2,290.77; notaries, $70; commission on transfers and writs, $3,819.60; and Affordable Housing administrative fee, $985.50.

McCall remitted $342.50 in state writ taxes to the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, while Carbon County municipalities and school districts shared realty transfer tax disbursements totaling $190,360.85, the same amount that was forwarded to the state in realty transfer taxes.

McCall deposited $2,040 in the Recorder of Deeds Record Improvement Fund and $1,360 in the Carbon County Records Improvement Fund, these being fees assessed by state law on each transaction for records management needs. An additional $21,619.50 was collected and remitted to the state for its Judicial Computer System program.

Also, $5,584.50 was collected last month for the Affordable Housing Program in Carbon County.

In all, funds collected in the Recorder's office last month amounted to $439,162.07.

Prothonotary's report

A total of 258 cases were started in November in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of the cases is as follows:

Assessment appeals, 4; civil actions, 26; custody complaints, 12; district justice appeals, 7; divorce complaints, 22; complaint in ejectment, 1; license appeals, 2; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 22; protection from abuse petitions, 18; auditor/financial report; 1; judgments, 132; miscellaneous cases, 5; and stipulations/waivers of liens, 6. The office staff also received and processed 57 applications for U.S. passports.

Behrens' financial report shows $31,325.81 was generated as follows: prothonotary's fees, $25,657.22 interest income $0.95; custody fees, $750.00; data processing fees, $4,767.64; PFA Surcharge, courts, $75; PFA surcharge, Sheriff; $75; and Remote Access Fees, $600.

The prothonotary also remitted $4,444.01 the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $76.80 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $1,230.84 was deposited in the Prothonotary's Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
