State police at the Hazleton barracks said a gas station attendant grabbed a baseball bat to scare off an attempted armed robber in an incident that happened at 9:32 p.m. Dec. 22 at the Gulf Station, 528 Route 93, Sugarloaf Township.

Police said a short white female, medium to heavy build and wearing a gray winter coat and black pants, entered the station displaying a small knife and told the attendant to open the register. Police said when the attendant grabbed a baseball bat that was behind the register, the would-be robber ran out of the store.
