Senior citizens
The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met last week at it new location, the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St.
The meeting was attended by 64 members, with President Melody Weicker conducting the business session.
Jacque Patrick provided an inspirational reading, "Help With the Cross."
George Millet, Rosetta Folk and Barbara Gallagher were added to the sick list. Treasurer Norma Lee Burke announced she is now accepting dues for 2015.
The meeting concluded with refreshments, cards and social games.
The seniors meet at 1 p.m. every Thursday. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The YMCA is handicap accessible.
Financial aid
The Tamaqua Area High School Guidance Department will sponsor an informational financial aid night on Feb. 16. The event will begin at 6 p.m. and be held in the district auditorium.
The 2015-2016 financial aid form will be reviewed and general financial aid questions will be answered by a representative of the PHEAA.
Junior and senior class students planning to further their education, as well as their parents, are welcome to attend.
Information on local scholarships will also be available. No preregistration or fee is require
Snow rules
Tamaqua residents are reminded of borough rules concerning snow removal.
Property owners are required to maintain a clear path, at least 3 feet wide, on sidewalks. Snow and ice must be removed from these pathways within 24 hours of the end of a snowstorm.
Snow, ice and other materials may not be thrown into the streets. Fines of $25 and up may be imposed on anyone caught throwing snow or ice into the street, or who fails to maintain a snow-free pathway.
People who plow snow from in front of homes and businesses must remove any piles of snow they create.
Anyone piling snow in the street or parking areas could be cited.
Residents are asked to refrain from piling snow near fire hydrants or on top of storm drains and are encouraged to clear snow from these areas.

Bethany EC
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school will meet at 9:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the membership class will meet at 9:15 a.m. and the monthly service at the Tamaqua ABC High Rise will be celebrated at 6 p.m.
Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, musician rehearsal at 8:30 a.m., praise practice at 9:30 a.m.
