Prothonotary's report
A total of 240 cases were started in January in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder.
A breakdown of the cases:
Civil actions, 22; custody complaints, 12; district justice appeals, 8; divorce complaints, 14; complaints in ejectment, 2; license appeals, 2; complaint in partition, 1; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 29; protection from abuse petitions, 28; quiet title action, 1; replevin complaint, 1; tax sales, 2; auditor/financial reports, 4; court rules, 2; court appointments, 6; judgments, 103; miscellaneous case, 1; and stipulations/waivers of liens, 2. The office staff also received and processed 101 applications for U.S. Passports.
Behrens' financial report shows $27,806 was generated last month as follows: prothonotary's fees, $23,375; interest income $1.10; custody fees; $900; data processing fees, $3,369; PFA Surcharge, courts, $75; PFA surcharge, sheriff, $85; and Remote Access Fees, $2,100.
The prothonotary also remitted $4,028.21 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $36 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $860 was deposited in the Prothonotary's Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
