Kindergarten registration
Registration for kindergarten classes in the Tamaqua Area School District, for the school year 2015-2016, will be held March 23, 24 and 25 at the Rush Elementary School and March 26 at the West Penn Elementary School. Registration hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at both schools.
Registration packets will be available at all three of the district's elementary schools as of Feb. 23 or at the Tamaqua Area School District website, www.tamaqua.K12.pa.us. Appointments will then be scheduled for March.
Children residing within the Tamaqua Area School District who will reach the age of 5 before Sept. 1, 2015, are eligible to attend kindergarten classes.
To register, call 570-668-3306 the week of March 2, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and from 1-3 p.m. to schedule an appointment.
Proof of residency, health records, original birth certificates and original Social Security cards will be required.
Children will be evaluated by a classroom teacher, nurse and speech therapist.
Library news
The Tamaqua Public Library hosts two book discussion groups.
The Teen/Young Adult group will meet at 6 p.m. Monday. The theme is "Exploring the World in Books."
This month will concentrate on St. Valentine and Italy, along with some exploration of the cultures of the Greek and Roman Empires. The topic for the March meeting will be Ireland and St. Patrick.
The adult book discussion group will meet at 6 p.m. Feb. 23. This month's selection is "All the Light We Cannot See" by Anthony Doerr.
New members are always welcome for both groups.

Weekly prayer
The Tamaqua Area Faith and Fellowship Network is sponsoring a series of weekly prayer meetings at the New Life Assembly of God Church on Schuylkill Avenue.
The meetings will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. every Tuesday for the next three months. The public is welcome to attend.

St. Peter's Union
Sunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. Sunday school will meet at 10:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the confirmation class will meet at 11:30 a.m.; Cub Scouts will meet from 4 to 8 p.m.; bell choir will rehearse at 6 p.m.; Daisies, Brownies, Juniors and Cadet Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.
Activities for next week include: Monday, church board meets at 6 p.m.; Tuesday, prayer group at 5 p.m., Women of St. Peter's meets at 7:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Ash Wednesday service, with Holy Communion, at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, cherub choir meets at 6:30 p.m., junior choir rehearses at 7 p.m., senior choir practice at 7:30 p.m.
St. John UCC
The Rev. Kevin Duffy Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ. Sunday school begins at the end of the junior sermon.
Also on Sunday, a time of fellowship and choir rehearsal will be held following the worship service.
Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, Bible study session at 6:30 p.m.; Ash Wednesday service at 7:30 p.m.
