Kindergarten registration
Registration for kindergarten classes in the Tamaqua Area School District for the school year 2015-2016 will be held March 23, 24 and 25 at the Rush Elementary School and March 26 at the West Penn Elementary School. Registration hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at both schools.
Registration packets will be available at all three of the district's elementary schools as of Monday or at the Tamaqua Area School District website, www.tamaqua.K12.pa.us. Appointments will then be scheduled for March.
Children in the Tamaqua Area School District who will reach the age of 5 before Sept. 1, 2015, are eligible to attend kindergarten classes.
To register, call 570-668-3306 the week of March 2, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and from 1-3 p.m. to schedule an appointment.
Proof of residency, health records, original birth certificates and original Social Security cards will be required.
Children will be evaluated by a classroom teacher, nurse and speech therapist.
Computer classes
The Tamaqua Public Library offers free basic computer classes through the Seniors Training Seniors Program. The one-on-one instruction is offered throughout each week during normal library hours.
The classes are also available to the general public on a space available basis.

Weekly prayer
The Tamaqua Area Faith and Fellowship Network is sponsoring a series of weekly prayer meetings at the New Life Assembly of God Church on Schuylkill Avenue. The meetings will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. every Tuesday for the next three months. The public is welcome to attend.

Calvary Evangelical
The Rev. Ed Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes are at 9:15 a.m.
Also this Sunday, a Bible study session based on the book of Jonah will be held at 6:30 p.m.
A community Lenten service will be held at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday at Immanuel United Methodist Church, West Penn Township. A hymn sing will be held before the service.
The next family game night at Calvary will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 28.
St. Peter's Union
Sunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. Sunday school will meet at 10:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the confirmation class will meet at 11:30 a.m.; Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, Cadets and Cub Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.
Activities for next week include: Monday, women's Bible study meets at 6 p.m.; Tuesday, prayer group at 5 p.m., called to care committee meets at 6 p.m.; Wednesday, midweek Lenten service, 7:30 p.m., St. John's, Mahoning; Thursday, junior choir rehearses at 7 p.m., senior choir practice at 7:30 p.m.
St. John Lutheran
The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Also on Sunday, a congregational meeting will be held following the worship service, followed by bell choir rehearsal.
Activities for next week include: Wednesday, Luther's Angels Relay for Life meeting at 11:30 a.m., midweek Lenten service at 7 p.m., followed by chancel choir rehearsal; Thursday, shepherd choir meets at 6:30 p.m.
