BMHS offers program on lactose intolerance
Blue Mountain Health System will offer a community health education program on lactose intolerance at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 27 in the first floor board room at the Gnaden Huetten campus, 211 N. 12th St., Lehighton.
Lactose intolerance, or lactose deficiency, means you aren't able to fully digest the milk sugar (lactose) in dairy products. It's usually not dangerous, but symptoms of lactose intolerance can be uncomfortable.
Formal testing for lactose intolerance can not only confirm lactose intolerance and prompt the institution of a reduced or lactose-free diet, but it also can exclude lactose intolerance and direct attention to diagnosing other conditions and diseases that are responsible for the symptoms.
Registered dietitian Denise Frey will discuss symptoms, diagnosis and treatment, foods containing lactose, best foods for people with lactose intolerance and how you can get enough calcium and Vitamin D in your diet.
Call 610-377-7070 to register.
