Tamaqua man cited for public drunkenness

Tamaqua police cited Blaine Smith, 34, of 611 Arlington St. after an incident on July 2.

Officers were dispatched to 39 E. Mauch Chunk St. at 3:45 a.m. and found Smith on the sidewalk, trying to sit up on the curb. He had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and was slurring his words. He explained away a black eye he had as the result of punching himself a few days earlier.

Smith refused medical treatment and was given a ride home.

He was cited for public drunkenness.
