Where are the jobs?

Published July 18. 2015 09:00AM

Dear Editor,

I would like to know after the Mahoning Township Supervisors put a stop to the development of the Packerton Yards project, why don't the Carbon County Commissioners develop the Green Acre Industrial Park in Nesquehoning? Since the county sold their building in the park there has been nothing going on over there.

The former building that the county owned over there is vacant at this time and the present building is up for rent.

There are no tenants in the building. Why doesn't the county get together with the real estate company from Lehighton and advertise that it is up for rent?

The county has more connections to more possible tenants. Before the county sold the building, Dawn Ferrente has a company from Nashville, Tennessee, come in to the building.

The company stayed in the building about one year and moved out of the area, probably due to the stench left behind by the former company.

I think it is going to be hard to find a company to stay in the building. The county may have to develop the land and build another building. If you don't know what I'm talking about, take a tour of the building.

In the Panther Valley Industrial Park in Lansford the Silberline Plant moved all of its employees to their plant in Hometown. What's going to become of those buildings there if they close?

You don't know what an impact a company has in the area. Here are the towns that employees came from to work for Liquid Fence: Drums, Saylorsburg, Lansford, Coaldale, Summit Hill, Nesquehoning, Tamaqua, Jim Thorpe, Lehighton, Franklin Township, Forest Inn, Palmerton, Weatherly, White Haven, Albrightsville and Gouldsboro.

Liquid Fence also bought the employees lunch once a month and supported local business.

Thank you,

Robert Benek
