Results of DUI patrol, checkpoint announced
The North Central Pennsylvania Regional DUI Enforcement Program has released the results of a roving DUI patrol and a sobriety checkpoint held during the weekend of July 17 and 18 in Schuylkill County.
A sobriety checkpoint was held Friday in Frackville. A total of 763 vehicles were contacted with 56 being detained. Of the seven drivers tested for possibly driving under the influence, three adults were charged with DUI. Officers also made 36 traffic arrests, wrote five seat belt citations, made four criminal arrests and issued 15 warnings. The checkpoint was staffed by 16 officers representing nine police departments.
On Saturday, two officers from two departments conducted a roving DUI patrol. A total of 23 vehicles were contacted and detained, with no arrests for driving drunk. Officers also made nine traffic-related arrests, wrote one citation for a seat belt violation and issued 14 warnings.
DUI enforcement efforts will continue to be conducted through Monday on routes 61, 183, 901, 209, 1006, 309, 443, 895, 125, 25, 924 and 54.
The checkpoints and patrols are funded through the state Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Motorists are reminded to dial 911 if they suspect a drunken driver.
