All Stars tryouts

West End Little League All Stars tryouts will be held for 11- and 12-year-olds at 5:30 p.m. today at the Gilbert Field.

The 9- and 10-year-old tryouts will be at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Saylorsburg Playground.

Those trying out are reminded to come dressed in baseball pants and cleats. No shorts.

Sixth grade band

The Pleasant Valley Intermediate School Sixth Grade Band will present its concert at 7:30 tonight.

Band Parents

Pleasant Valley Band Parents will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the high school band room.

PVI band

The Pleasant Valley Intermediate Band will present its concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Youth camp

St. Matthew's UCC in Kunkletown will hold camp grove weekend for its youth from seventh through 12th grade from 6 p.m. Friday to after a youth-led service at 9 a.m. in the grove.

Activities include ice breaker activities, campfire songs and stories on Friday; games such as kickball, capture the flag, and relay races, making s'mores and hot dogs around campfire, planning and rehearsing the youth-led service, spiritual team-building activities, crafts, and watching a movie when it's dark on Saturday; and the youth-led church service in grove on Sunday.

Fancy Nancy Day

The Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville celebrated 10 years of Glamour with Fancy Nancy Day. The event will be repeated Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with a very special and fancy story time. Come dressed in your fanciest clothes to hear stories about fancy things.

There will be crafts and lots of fun.

Championship game

West End Little League Majors championship game will be played at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Saylorsburg Playground.

Smart Driver course

A 4-hour Smart Driver course, as presented by an AARP volunteer, will be given at the Polk Firehouse in Kresgeville beginning at 9 a.m. Monday for those who can provide proof that they took the 8-hour driver refresher course within the past 36 months.

Senior seminar

Senior Crime Prevention University is to be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Western Pocono Community Library as presented by David P. Shallcross, Elder Abuse Unit Leader, Education and Outreach Specialist from the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General.

The Senior Crime Prevention University will help seniors and their families become aware of, and be able to avoid known scams along with other people who target senior citizens.

Free camp

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God, in Brodheadsville will offer a free sports camp from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday through June 11. Sports offered are: karate, basketball, football, cheerleading and soccer for ages 5 to 12. Crafts will be offered to those of preschool age.

Hero stories

Registration for Western Pocono Community Library's Summer Reading Program is now open.

This year the theme is: Every Hero Has a Story! with the focus on the heroes in local community and other real-life heroes.

The groups will be split as they were last year: birth to age 5, ages 6 and 7, and 8 to 18. Registration for the program has begun. The program begins June 16. For more information and a schedule of events, contact the library at 570-992-7934.

Seniors menu

The Chestnut Hill Seniors meeting at Zion Lutheran Fellowship Hall in Brodheadsville will have the following lunches on the menu: Friday, herb pork roast; and June 10, hot pork sandwich.

For meal reservations call the site manager at 570-420-3735 one day in advance by 11 a.m. Suggested meal donation is $2.

It is a place for those who want some companionship, enjoy playing games, have lunch and have a few good laughs with others in the community.

Gypsy moth

Monroe County Planning Commission is investigating the annual gypsy moth infestation in the county. To accurately determine the range and severity of the 2015 infestation, and therefore the possible 2016 infestation, they will be creating a database of affected parcels throughout the county.

Anyone with a gypsy moth infestation is asked to contact Evan Makuvek, Environmental Planner, at 570-517-3341. He will need your name and physical address.

Safety first

Church leadership at Pleasant Valley Assembly of God in Brodheadsville has the following request: To ensure the safety of the almost 100 kids and youth attending on Wednesday nights, families are being asked to please park in the gravel lot, then walk children and youth to their service.

The same should be done when picking them up.

Precious junk

Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville will hold its precious junk sale, beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday.

PIC cleanup

Pride in Chestnuthill will be doing a litter cleanup on Saturday. PIC members and friends will meet at the Chestnuthill Township municipal building on Route 715 at 7 a.m.

PIC does do not pickup in rain or temperatures below 40 degrees at 7 a.m. on the day of the event.

Participants should wear brightly colored rugged clothing and footwear. Children below 13 are not permitted. Children 13 to 18 must be accompanied by a parent. The group welcomes any high school students and their parents who are using community service as their graduation project.

Turkey time

From 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday is the time to pick up those ordered turkey dinners at Salem-St. Paul's in Kresgeville.

Library blood drive

Every Wednesday from noon to 6 p.m. help save lives by donating whole blood or blood platelets at Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville. For questions or to make an appointment with The Miller-Keystone Blood Center, call 800-223-6667. Walk-ins are also welcome.

Busy Sunday

Salem-St. Paul's Lutheran, Kresgeville, has a filled roster of happenings Sunday. The day begins with a Holy Communion service at 8:15 a.m.

At 9 a.m. it's Sunday school and Confirmation class.

At 10:30 it's Holy Communion and special music as well as graduates being honored.

At 11:30 there will be a reception for the graduates and a blood pressure screening.

At noon there is a mission trip meeting.

From 1 to 3 p.m. it's a bowl-a-thon at HaJa Lanes in Palmerton and from 1 to 5 p.m. the choir picnic will be held at Echo Lake.

The church council will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, following the church's executive meeting at 6:30 p.m.

Free health talk

Mrs. Bush's in Kunkletown will host a free health talk at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The topic is: Staying Hydrated and Eating Healthy As We Age presented by Rhiana Cenci from Kinsley's Shop Rite.

Knit & Crochet

Zion Lutheran's Knit & Crochet group will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday to ply their volunteer skills. Newcomers are welcome.

Operation: Touch of Home

The group will hold its 2015 annual members meeting at 7 p.m. June 9 at the American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert. It will be a time of electing board members.

Free skin screening

Pocono Medical Center will hold a free skin cancer screening from 9 a.m. to noon June 13 at the Dale & Frances Hughes Cancer Center in East Stroudsburg. There are limited appointments/criteria eligibility. To register call 570-476-3750.

Free chalk talk

Mrs. Bush's Personal Care Home, Kunkletown, is offering a free Snyder Chalk Talk presentation at 2 p.m. June 17. The Snyder Chalk Talk illustrates a biblical message using God-given abilities to draw and sing. Special chalk, elaborate lighting, and Christian music are used to share the Gospel truth in a unique and memorable way. The message through this medium captures the hearts of young and old alike.

Beach volleyball

The West End Park & Open Space Commission will sponsor a Beach Volleyball League on the sand court at the Chestnuthill Park, Brodheadsville, on Thursdays from June 18 through Aug. 13

Eldred yard sale

The Eldred Township Community Center yard sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 27.

Table space is available for a cost, but tables are not provided.

Registration forms are available at the Township Building from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays or online at www.eldredtwp.org under the "News and Updates" column. The deadline for registration is June 13. The Township Building will be open that day from 9 a.m. to noon

There is a mandatory $25 cleanup deposit that is refunded after the rented spot is cleaned and unsold items are removed.

Sale items should be clean, useable and in working order.
