Deer blamed for crash on I-81

A deer entering the roadway was blamed for a one-vehicle crash along Interstate 81 in Mahanoy Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville said Ellen M. Babuscak, 68, of Wilkes-Barre, was driving a 2011 Buick Lacrosse southbound at 6:12 a.m. on Thursday when she swerved to avoid a deer. She could not avoid the animal and struck it.

Babuscak injured her thumb but refused medical treatment. Damages to the vehicle included the engine compartment. The Buick had to be towed.
