A Walker Township man was cited for driving under the influence-related offenses after a traffic stop in Tamaqua on April 3.

Borough police were on patrol at 9:51 p.m. traveling north on Center Street in the area of Burger King. As a white Volkswagen Jetta, headed south, passed the cruiser, the license plate reader alerted the officer of an expired registration. The officer turned around and saw the VW turn right onto Spruce Street.

The car then turned left onto Hunter Street, where the officer found it double parked near the intersection with Penn Street. The officer was able to see the registration sticker, which expired March 2015.

The driver of the Jetta was identified as Jake Aaron Love, 20, of 250 Whitetail Crossing Road. As the officer spoke with Love, he noticed a strong odor of alcohol and asked the driver if he would submit to a portable breath test. The test was positive for alcohol.

Love was then given, and failed, field sobriety tests. He was then transported to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street, Pottsville, for blood tests. Results of those tests indicate a blood-alcohol content of 0.124 percent.

Love was cited for DUI of alcohol, DUI by a minor, driving with an expired registration and underage drinking.
