Monroe man facing assault count

A Monroe County man is facing charges of simple assault, resisting arrest and public drunkenness.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said at 5:32 p.m. June 8, officers were dispatched to 8557 Hillcrest Drive, A Pocono Country Place, in Tobyhanna, for a suspicious man.

The man was identified as Frans Abbema, 39, of 8434 Bear Trail, Tobyhanna. Police said he was trespassing on that property and appeared intoxicated. When officers arrived, Abbema ran. A short foot chase occurred when Abbema was being arrested.

While being charged it was learned that Abbema had an outstanding warrant for his arrest issued out of the sheriff's office for failure to appear on a driving under the influence charge.

He was later released after posting bond.
