Tamaqua woman celebrates 85 years

Dorothy Rummel of Tamaqua observed her 85th birthday on June 13. She is the wife of Edward Rummel.

Born in Barnesville, she is the daughter of the late Alvin and Mae Herring. She worked in the garment industry before retiring, for Sprite Manufacturing of Tamaqua and the J.E. Morgan Knitting Mills of Hometown.

She is the mother of four: Susan Sanders, Donald Rummel, Terry Rummel and Sandra Rummel; the grandmother of eight; and has 11 great-grandchildren.

A member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Tamaqua, she is a former Sunday school teacher and Cub Scout den mother.

She and her husband celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last Oct. 21.
