Two arrested for theft of purse
Two Monroe County residents have been arrested and charged with stealing a purse from a Jazzy wheelchair. Pocono Mountain Regional police said the theft occurred at 3:45 p.m. June 7 at the Walmart store in Mount Pocono.
Police said the victim was operating the Jazzy and loading her vehicle, which was parked in a handicap stop. The victim accidentally left her purse in the Jazzy and left Walmart. She returned to discover her purse was missing and was not returned to the customer service counter in the store.
Police were able to obtain photos of the suspects. On June 11 an officer was at the office of District Judge Phillip Riley in Mountainhome on an unrelated case and observed two people in the lobby who matched the people in the photos of the purse theft.
The officer confronted Rosangel Guerrero, 33, and Brandon Peters, 22, both of 2917 Fairhaven Drive, Tobyhanna. Both ultimately admitted taking the purse, which was recovered later that day.
Both have been charged with theft, criminal conspiracy to commit theft and receiving stolen property.
