Prothonotary's report
A total of 336 cases were started in February in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of the cases is as follows:
Civil actions, 36; custody complaints, 26; district justice appeals, 3; divorce complaints, 19; complaints in ejectment, 2; license appeal, 1; complaint in partition, 1; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 33; name change petition, 1; protection from abuse petitions, 22; quiet title action,1; replevin complaints, 2; judgments, 187; paternity suit,1; and stipulation/waiver of liens, 1. The office staff also received and processed 103 applications for U.S. passports.
Behrens' financial report shows $32,324.47 was generated last month as follows: prothonotary's fees, $27,615.09; interest income $4.38; custody fee; $450; data processing fees, $4,155; PFA surcharge, courts, $50; and PFA surcharge, Sheriff; $50. The prothonotary also remitted $1,200 in Remote Access Fees to the county and $4,778.03 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $79.20 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $1,080.00 was deposited in the Prothonotary's Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
