Nesquehoning
Historical society
The Nesquehoning Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the borough hall, 114 W. Catawissa St.
During the meeting, Bob Dunstan Jr. of Lansford, formerly of Nesquehoning, will be giving a presentation on the lost town of Lausanne.
Dunstan is a 1970 graduate of Panther Valley High School and a lifelong resident of the area.
He was employed by Kraft Foods in Allentown for 40 years before retiring in 2012. He is the son of Bob Sr. and Esther Dunstan of Nesquehoning. Bob and his wife, Louise, have two grown sons.
Dunstan first became interested in the story of the lost town of Lausanne during a chance meeting with a college professor over a decade ago.
Lausanne was once located between Nesquehoning and Jim Thorpe. In 1812, it had its own post office, stagecoach road and toll bridge. There was also a large hotel known as the Landing Hotel. It served rail workers and riders alike.
Dunstan will help answer what happened to Lausanne, which he learned about through intensive research.
The public is invited. Light refreshments will be served.
