Prothonotary's report
A total of 207 cases were started in April in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of the cases is as follows:
Civil actions, 23; custody complaints, 12; district justice appeals, 8; divorce complaints, 20; complaints in ejectment, 5; license appeals, 3; municipal appeals, 1; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 31; name change petition, 1; protection from abuse petitions, 23; quiet title actions, 3; replevin complaints, 2; tax sales, 3; judgments, 71; and stipulation/waiver of liens, 1.
The office staff also received and processed 177 applications for U.S. passports.
Behrens' financial report shows $33,069.82 was generated last month as follows: prothonotary's fees, $28,657.76; interest income, $4.56; custody fee, $650; data processing fees, $3,689.90; PFA surcharge, courts, $25; and PFA surcharge, sheriff; $42.60. The prothonotary also remitted $600 in remote access fees to the county.
The prothonotary forwarded $4,683.36 to the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $51.20 to the administrative offices of the Pennsylvania courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $855 was deposited in the Prothonotary's Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
