Nesquehoning

Neighborhood watch

Nesquehoning Mayor Sam Kitchko announced that the next Community Neighborhood Watch meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the borough hall. All are welcome.

The group will also meet on June 30. There will be no July meeting. In August, the group is looking into planning a National Night Out event for the borough.

Panther Valley Senior Center

The following are a listing of upcoming activities at the Panther Valley Senior Center, 90 E. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning.

All activities begin at 11 a.m. unless otherwise noted.

Sign in by 10:30 a.m. for the next day's lunch.

Monday-May 15: the center is closed due to senior games.

Coaldale

Vacation Bible School

Registrations are currently being accepted for Vacation Bible School at First Congregational Church in Coaldale. VBS will be held 6 to 8 p.m. daily from June 22 to June 26.

Youths from 3 to 18 years of age are invited to participate in the programs which will include Bible stories, crafts, music practice, snacks and fun activities.

First Congregational Church

Upcoming activities at First Congregational Church, Coaldale, include:

Sunday: 9 a.m. worship with a Mother's Day theme featuring children and youth of the church; 10 a.m. Sunday school.

Monday: 7 p.m. church board meeting.

May 17: 9 a.m. worship; 10 a.m. Sunday school.

May 19: 7 p.m. women's class.

May 21: 7 p.m. Memorial Day Choir rehearsal. Anyone interested in taking part in the choir is welcome to attend this session.

May 24: 9 a.m. Memorial Day service featuring the Memorial Day Choir and the projection showing pictures of area veterans.

All area veterans are invited to attend this service and be honored.

Lansford

Al-Anon meetings

Al-Anon group to meet Mondays at 7:15 p.m. at St. Katharine Drexel Church Hall, 120 E. Abbott St., Lansford.

Al-Anon is a nonprofit, worldwide support organization helping families and friends of loved ones suffering from addiction.

Golden Agers

The Panther Valley Golden Agers meeting of April 27 celebrated the birthdays of 14 members.

Monday at 11 a.m., a memorial mass will be held for 11 deceased members of the past year at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Summit Hill.

Members are requested to be present at 10:45 to begin singing.

The Rev. James Burrdess, spiritual adviser for the group, will be the main celebrant.

Following the Mass, a social will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church Social Hall.

Public library

Panther Valley Public Library announces 2015 summer reading program

The Panther Valley Public Library presents "Every Hero Has a Story!" during its summer library program.

Children will explore heroes in the community, animal heroes, heroes in storybooks and learn how they too can become heroes.

The Summer Reading Program is open to children ages 3-8 with story time, special programs, prizes and more.

Registration for Every Hero Has a Story begins on May 26.

Space is limited and all programs are free of charge.
