Speed stop leads to multiple charges

Published May 18. 2015 04:00PM

A stop for speeding by officers of the Pocono Mountain Regional police has led to multiple charges filed against the Luzerne County driver.

Police said on May 12 officers stopped a vehicle for going 71 miles-per-hour in a 55 zone along Route 115 in Blakeslee. At the stop, the driver, Raymond Cordy, 57, of Wilkes-Barre, gave a false name.

He was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence after failing field sobriety tests. He was transported to the Fern Ridge state police barracks for a fingerprint search. His real identity was then learned.

It was also learned that Cordy had outstanding warrants for his arrest issued out of Luzerne and Lackawanna counties for failure to appear for retail theft and a disorderly conduct charge as well as for a probation violation.

As a result of the stop Pocono police charged him with DUI, flight to avoid apprehension, false ID to law enforcement, forgery, unsworn falsifications to authorities, habitual offender and speeding.

He was arraigned before a district judge and committed to the county prison in Snydersville in lieu of bail.
