Academic Awards

Pleasant Valley High School will give out its academic awards at the school tonight at 7.

Lions meet

The Western Pocono Lions Club will meet at 7 tonight at the Old Mill Pizza Restaurant in Sciota.

The club raised over $900 with its recent bowl-a-thon. The Stroudsburg Lions team won a trophy.

Chestnuthill historical society

The Chestnuthill Township Historical Society will meet at 7 tonight at the park building on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.

Park work day

There will be a work day at the West End Regional Park on Thursday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. The exercise equipment for the Dave Fleetwood Trail is here and the site needs to be prepared.

Those volunteering are asked to bring rakes, shovels, loppers and chain saw as there are a couple of small trees.

Electronic recycling

Eldred Township, in conjunction with the Monroe County Waste Authority, is once again accepting old electronic equipment for recycling. Residents may drop off acceptable electronics at the Township Municipal Building weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Drive around to the back of the building and place the items on the pallets provided. To see the list of acceptable items, visit www.thewasteauthority.com.

Volunteers recognized

Pleasant Valley Elementary School will honor its volunteers at a ceremony at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Chorus concert

Pleasant Valley Intermediate School's Fourth Grade Chorus Concert will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

WELL meeting

The West End Little League will meet at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Park Building in Brodheadsville. All managers and coaches well as all League members are encouraged to attend.

Chestnut Hill Seniors

The menu for the Chestnut Hill Seniors for the next two meetings are: Friday, chicken and sausage bake, and May 27, Salisbury steak.

Litter cleanup

Pride in Chestnuthill will be doing another litter cleanup Saturday.

PIC members and friends will meet at the Chestnuthill Township municipal building on Route 715 at 7 a.m. The rain date will be May 30. PIC does do not pickup in rain, snow or temperatures below 40 degrees at 7 a.m. on the day of the event.

Participants should wear brightly colored rugged clothing and footwear. Children below 13 are not permitted. Children 13 to 18 must be accompanied by a parent.

The group welcomes any Pleasant Valley High School students and their parents who are using community service as their graduation project.

Breakfast served

There will be a community breakfast from 8-10 a.m. Saturday in McCawley Hall at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert. All are welcome.

Dog park benefit

There will be a craft and gift fair at the Chestnuthill Township Park on Route 715, Brodheadsville, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Indoor and outdoor spaces with or without a table may still be available. Crafters and direct sellers are welcome.

The day will offer door prizes, refreshments, raffles, etc.

All proceeds benefit the leash-free dog park at the West End Regional Park in Brodheadsville.

Zion Confirmation

Several youths will be confirmed at Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville on Sunday.

Ambulance benefit

The West End Ambulance Association is having a flea market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Effort station on Gilbert Road.

Polk veterans program

Polk Township will hold its Memorial Day program honoring veterans at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Veterans Memorial on Route 209 in Kresgeville.

Address markers

The township administration reminds residents to have their E-911 address markers displayed properly. For rules, call the township at 610-681-5376. The ambulance staff is discovering too many are still missing or improperly displayed.

Free concert

Leigh Cole and Chris Eckert will present in a free concert at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Chestnuthill Park, hosted by the West End Park and Open Space Commission.

Billed as a Tribute to Veterans, free refreshments will be available for all veterans. American Legion Post 927 will present the colors.

Attendees are advised to bring lawn chairs, blankets and bug spray. Concessions will be available.

Knit & Crochet

Zion Lutheran's Knit & Crochet will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Women's Club banquet

The Western Pocono Women's Club will have its annual banquet and installation of officers at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Boulder View Tavern.

New members will be initiated as well.

Lioness event

The guest speaker for the Western Pocono Lioness meeting Tuesday is Pocono Wildlife Refuge.

Other visitors including Marie Barth, representing the Lioness clubs and Lions District Gov. Sharon Kimmel. The gathering time is 6:30 p.m. Speakers will present at 6:45 The business meeting starts at 7.

Special Olympics

Pleasant Valley School District will host the Special Olympics on May 27.

At 7 p.m., the PVHS Athletic Awards will be presented at the school.

VALOR benefit

On May 27, an event organized and financed by Thrivent Financial will benefit Veterans Assisted Living Outreach in Jonas.

The benefit dinner will take place at the Lighthouse building of Christ Hamilton Lutheran Church, 419 Bossardsville Road, Stroudsburg, at 6 p.m.

A freewill offering will be collected for VALOR. Also being accepted at that time are donations of nonperishable foods, hygiene items and clothing.
